Keeping Your Pet Comfortable During A Storm

If you have ever had a dog or cat that is scared during storms, you know the anxiety that it gives you as the owner. Thankfully, in all the pets that we have had at the Laber Zoo, only two have had that fear of storms. But I have felt helpless when it happens. I have researched ways to help them. I have tried so many things, and thankfully, I was able to help Chewy (the dog who started it all – if you have read our website, you know what I mean by that). Just by holding him close and talking to him, Chewy was able to make it through even the worst storms. However, if I wasn’t home, I felt so terrible! So, I started to watch the weather closely during the spring and fall to make sure I was home if a storm was coming. Unfortunately, with Bowie, though, nothing was working. In his case, we are medicating him under the guidance of our trusted Vet. It is what works for him. Is it perfect? No. But it is the best way to help Bowie. As a pet parent, that is my job. To find what works for my pets to give them the best life possible. If you have a pet that is scared during storms, check out the attached article for some tips to make them more comfortable. And remember, it’s ok to ask for help. If nothing works, talk to your trusted Vet. They are there to help you and your pet have the best life that you can, together!
